Richard Clune is a Canadian hockey player, born on April 25, 1987, who has played 423 AHL games and 139 NHL games since his debut in 2006, but behind his career and his uniform features in his article, the battle, its history with respect to the addictions that it had and how it was surpassing them.

“I was 23 years old, being paid hundreds of thousands of dollars a year to live my dream, and I was such a mess that I was either going to wind up dead or kill somebody else.” Richard relates in his article, in who confesses the moment when he recounted that he needed help, “And that’s when I broke down for the first time and said, I am an alcoholic. I am a drug addict. For sure. Help me. “, Without a doubt he admits that at that precise moment he felt that he removed a great weight from his shoulders, after all the first step is to accept it.

Long before accepting his addictions, he drank from the moment he woke up on his days off and smoked marijuana every day, but he also woke up shaking at 5 am while his nose bleeding the entire pillow. Richard got to such a point that he could not take it anymore and decided to face the situation, he went through a difficult process which, of course, did not happen quickly, he was first sent to the hospital to detoxify him for three days, where he said he basically vomited and cursed.

However, he is not the only player with addiction problems, many go through the same despite the statistics and their performance in the games, you don’t know what really happens behind their uniforms, but in “The Battle” the story is about of the experience lived by Richard Clune.

This is a valuable read, even if you’re not a hockey fan.

Let me know what you think.
