The president of the United States, Donald Trump, has been somewhat uneasy with respect to defense spending, emphasizing that NATO member countries must meet high spending targets or otherwise be branded as delinquents.

According to Trump’s perspective, EE. UU is paying for everything, criticizing the multilateral alliance and arguing that the United States pays too much for the defense capacity of the alliance while other countries, including Canada, “take advantage” and do not contribute their share of the internal debt in spending military.

It also states that many nations of the world owe a significant amount to the United States many years ago, since it has been the USA. UU who has had to pay for the expenses of those nations, expressing “We are the imbeciles who are paying for everything”.

On the other hand, some people consider that Canada could and should do much more and not have to wait for EE. UU pay with all the costs of the alliance, giving the reason to Trump regarding the fact that defense spending is a predominant burden for the United States.

Trump suggests that NATO members could double defense spending much more than the promise of 2014 and with a certainly threatening tone says that if the allies do not meet the higher spending targets, they should abandon that alliance and continue alone. as far as military matters are concerned.

Therefore, a country’s military spending encompasses its NATO responsibilities and everything that its army and alliance does is the central pillar of Euro-Atlantic defense and the cornerstone of the Canadian defense and security policy, so it would come being an important reason why Canada should contribute more.
